Publication Ethic

Zona Economics and Islamic Economics (ZEIE) is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. All parties involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to adhere to recognized principles of ethical scholarly publishing.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of all data, analyses, arguments, and conclusions presented in their manuscripts.

Authors must:

  • Submit original work that has not been published elsewhere.

  • Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.

  • Properly cite and acknowledge all sources used in the manuscript.

  • Present research data accurately and transparently.

  • Avoid fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and manipulation of data.

  • Disclose relevant funding sources and conflicts of interest.

  • Ensure that all individuals listed as authors have made substantial contributions to the research.

  • Obtain appropriate ethical approval and informed consent when required.

  • Promptly inform the Editor if significant errors are discovered after submission or publication.

2. Plagiarism and Originality

ZEIE does not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software before or during the editorial process. Plagiarism includes copying text, ideas, data, figures, tables, or other intellectual material without appropriate acknowledgment.

Self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate paraphrasing, and unauthorized reproduction of previously published materials are also considered violations of publication ethics.

Manuscripts found to contain serious plagiarism may be rejected. Ethical violations discovered after publication may result in correction, retraction, or other appropriate editorial action.

3. Multiple and Duplicate Submission

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.

Manuscripts that substantially reproduce previously published work without appropriate justification, citation, and disclosure may be considered duplicate publications.

Authors must inform the Editor when a submitted manuscript substantially overlaps with another publication or manuscript under consideration elsewhere.

4. Data Integrity and Research Misconduct

Fabrication, falsification, selective manipulation, or intentional misrepresentation of research data is strictly prohibited.

Authors must retain appropriate records of research data and should be prepared to provide relevant supporting information when reasonably requested by the Editorial Board.

Suspected research misconduct will be investigated carefully and fairly before an editorial decision is made.

5. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual or scholarly contributions to the research.

All authors should:

  • Participate meaningfully in the research or preparation of the manuscript;

  • Review and approve the final version;

  • Agree to its submission and publication; and

  • Accept accountability for their contributions.

Guest authorship, honorary authorship, and ghost authorship are not permitted.

Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.

6. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, academic, or personal relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or publication decision.

When no conflict exists, authors may state:

“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Editors and reviewers with significant conflicts of interest should withdraw from handling or evaluating the manuscript.

7. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity, fairness, independence, and confidentiality of the editorial process.

Editors must:

  • Evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit and relevance to the journal.

  • Ensure fair and impartial editorial decisions.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.

  • Select reviewers with appropriate expertise.

  • Avoid conflicts of interest.

  • Investigate credible allegations of publication misconduct.

  • Protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

  • Make publication decisions independently of inappropriate commercial, institutional, or personal influence.

Editorial decisions must not be influenced by an author's nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, political beliefs, or other irrelevant personal characteristics.

8. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Peer reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality of ZEIE.

Reviewers must:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and academically justified evaluations.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts.

  • Avoid using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

  • Declare potential conflicts of interest.

  • Complete reviews within the agreed period whenever possible.

  • Identify relevant literature that authors may have overlooked.

  • Inform the Editor of suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, or other ethical concerns.

Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate and should be avoided.

9. Confidentiality

All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents.

Editors and reviewers must not disclose information concerning submitted manuscripts to unauthorized individuals.

Unpublished materials contained in manuscripts must not be used by editors or reviewers for their own research or personal advantage without appropriate authorization.

10. Human Participants and Research Ethics

Research involving human participants should comply with applicable ethical principles, institutional requirements, and relevant laws and regulations.

Where applicable, authors should provide information concerning:

  • Ethical approval;

  • Informed consent;

  • Participant confidentiality;

  • Data protection; and

  • Institutional authorization.

Authors are responsible for protecting the privacy, dignity, and rights of research participants.

11. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for all AI-assisted content included in a manuscript.

Where generative AI has been substantially used in manuscript preparation, analysis, translation, or other research processes, such use should be transparently disclosed where appropriate.

Authors must independently verify AI-generated information, particularly references, quotations, statistical information, interpretations, and factual claims.

AI use must not compromise confidentiality, originality, copyright, research integrity, or publication ethics.

12. Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawals

ZEIE is committed to maintaining an accurate and trustworthy scholarly record.

When significant errors or ethical problems are identified after publication, the journal may issue:

  • A correction or erratum;

  • A corrigendum;

  • An expression of concern; or

  • A retraction.

Retraction may be considered in cases involving serious plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, duplicate publication, unethical research, fraudulent authorship, or other major violations affecting the reliability of the published article.

Editorial actions will be determined according to the nature and severity of the problem.

13. Complaints and Ethical Allegations

Complaints regarding editorial procedures, peer review, conflicts of interest, authorship, plagiarism, or other publication ethics issues will be considered seriously.

The Editorial Board will evaluate allegations fairly, confidentially, and objectively.

Where appropriate, authors, reviewers, institutions, or other relevant parties may be contacted to obtain additional information before a decision is reached.

14. Publisher Responsibilities

Yayasan Mentari Madani, as the publisher of Zona Economics and Islamic Economics, supports the Editorial Board in maintaining academic independence and responsible publication practices.

The publisher is committed to:

  • Supporting editorial independence;

  • Protecting the integrity of published scholarly content;

  • Promoting transparent publication policies;

Zona Economics and Islamic Economics is committed to promoting responsible research and publication practices.

The journal expects all authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in publication to uphold the principles of:
